What’s New!

Well, we’ve been busy little bees here at Soap4Squares and we’ve totally neglected the poor blog (all together now “Awwww!!”).  No worries though!  We neglected it to make new soap goodies!  (See?  All better!)

Making the Cranberry Fig Swirl goodness!

We are super stoked to show everyone how we produce our soaps and scrubs!  Lately, I’ve been soaping late at night when work is done and the toddler is in dreamland, so the light kinda stinks. No worries, there is bound to be a weekend soap session bathed in natural light soon enough! =)

peppyscrub3Peppymint Sugar Scrub – Holiday Fun!

We are stoked for the holidays and are gearing up for our favorite time of year…the holiday Downtown Chandler Art Walks!  This month, there is a “zombie” theme.  I’m not sure I can hang with selling soap while I look un-dead, but we’ll see what we can do!

A Sweet Tooth Day 1…

I love sweets.  And soap!  Hence, why I made…well, sweet soap!

Introducing the Caramel Cake Batter Sugar Scrub!  It smells divine!  Like thick, creamy cake batter drizzled with ribbons of silky sweet caramel.  Oh yes, it’s that good.

I’m also currently obsessed with mason jars.  So, I put this scrub into one!  Each scrub comes in it’s own lil’ half-pint shorty mason jar that can be reused once the scrub is gone (once washed of course!).

This creamy, silky scrub washes away clean so you don’t feel oily or greasy when you’re done!

A few extra benefits of this scrub:

1. It’s gentle!  Sugar scrubs have the power to buff away dead skin and impurities while dissolving as you rub them over your skin to offer a buffing yet gentle exfoliation experience.

2. It’s non-greasy! This scrub has a whipped bath base that rinses clean!  No extra oils left behind to clog pores!

3. It’s fun!  And really, isn’t that the most important benefit ? It is.  It is.  🙂

All this talk of sugary sweet stuff has got me jonesin’ for some edible sweets.  (I should note, this scrub is not edible!)

I think for this weekend’s post, I’ll make some vegan “fro-yo” and post the recipe (hence this post’s title, that post will be sweet tooth day 2)!  Wish me luck! My track record with my food processor has not always been fantastic, ha!

DIY Fresh Sugar Scrub Tutorial

As you may know, we sell our fresh, juicy sweet sugar scrubs exclusively at local craft fairs and farmers markets (we haven’t figured out a way to ship them to you without charging a ton for shipping!).  We understand that waiting an entire month to renew your sugar scrub supply can be tedious SO we’ve decided to post our favorite quick-whip (i.e. super quick, easy, and cheap) sugar scrub recipe for a fresh sugar scrub you can make and use at home until the next Soap4Squares event rolls around!  This recipe calls for sweet almond oil.  Olive oil or coconut oil are our favorite alternatives if you can’t find any sweet almond oil at your local grocer or craft store.  In this particular recipe, I love how the toasty scent of the sweet almond oil balances the tart, juicy grapefruit fragrance!  This recipe doesn’t contain a preservative so we don’t recommend bottling this for sale.  Use shortly after it’s made to ensure freshness!

Fresh Grapefruit Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup sweet almond oil

1/2 tsp grapefruit fragrance or essential oil (we used Bramble Berry Pink Grapefruit)

Glass mixing container

Mixing utensil

Measuring cups/measuring spoons

Directions:

Stir the sweet almond oil and fragrance oil together in your glass container.   Pour in the sugar.  Mix thoroughly.  You should have a clumpy textured scrub with no extra oil pockets or dry sugar pockets.  If you do, mix a bit more or add a bit more sweet almond oil.

I choose not to add any colorants or dyes to my quick-whip scrub, but you certainly can!  Ensure the colorant you are using is skin safe and doesn’t stain!   Transfer your scrub into a shower safe container and get to scrubbing!

Remember to scrub away from the water stream, or if using in the tub, lift your arm/leg/etc above the water line.  If you lather in the water or in the shower stream, the sugar will melt quickly!  NOTE: This scrub will make your tub or shower slippery.  Soap carefully!
